I’m James Fowler, a British Audiobook Narrator with over 50 titles under my belt. I give producers and authors clear, ACX Standard audio from my professional Hampshire studio.
I studied Speech & Drama at Trinity College London, so the performance skill is here, along with technical studio skills.
As an Author you’ve invested many hours crafting your work, so it’s not only an honour to be asked to narrate, but there’s a responsibility to do it justice as a Narrator. I’d like to be your audio partner, a collaborator that supports your creative vision.
Your direction is everything and only when you’re completely happy with my interpretation will I run with the full audiobook narration. What you get is a premium quality, ready to publish performance and a positive experience of the process.
As a Producer or Author, you’ll have an idea in mind of the type of voice you’re looking for and every Voice Actor is different. I’d like to invite you to listen to my demos and hear the broad range of styles, tonalities and characters I can produce.
If you think I might be a good fit then we can arrange a no obligation demo of your text.
With over 50 books narrated, my reviews consistently mention reliability, professionalism and great performance and technical skills.
You want listeners to stay engaged from start to finish and that’s where an experienced, professionally trained narrator comes in:
My professional training means i’m skilled in the art of dynamic breath control, clear enunciation, emotional resonance, inflection variation, pacing and characterisation.
I’ve recorded styles including; Historical Fiction & Non Fiction, Contemporary Drama, Educational, Sci Fi and Childrens’ Content.
Character work is a passion and I draw on a wealth of life experience for character profiles. My natural tone is British RP (Received Pronunciation) and I can call on my Northern English heritage for accents and character interpretation.
I’m an expert at recording, editing and mixing audio that meets the industry ACX Professional Standard.
I have a voice tone that listeners are comfortable staying with for many hours.
The advantage of having narrated so many books is that i’ve developed the stamina and workflows to deliver work quickly. Post production is assisted by the use of ‘punch & roll’ in recording with an external controller, which is hugely efficient.
My purpose built studio enables me to perform and give full expression freely and consistently, safe in the knowledge that optimum audio is produced, with ACX Standards as a benchmark, on time and on budget.
I record with Steinberg Cubase as my primary DAW.
Post production with Izotope

When you drop me a message with a sample of your script, along with some performance direction I’ll record a bespoke audition for you, usually the same day.
If it looks like we’re a good fit then great, we can chat about terms and i’ll get the first 15 minutes of audio to you, so you can check on tone, style and any character voices.
Once you’re happy, I’ll then complete the work that’s ready to publish from my Hampshire,UK Studio.
I provide the audio files via a file sharing service and will carry out any amendments quickly and without fuss.
If you need assistance with uploading files to a publishing platform like Audible, just ask.
My rates per finished hour are from £150 – £250, depending on factors like technical language and number of character voices.
