Why is it transformational ? here’s why:
Before I got into Professional Voiceover work, I served for 30 years in the British Military, working in arduous and resource constrained environments. People now think that I enjoy cold weather – but its not true, I just know what clothes to wear. I was a Commando Medic in the Royal Navy and spent many years having great adventures around the World. I worked my way up the ranks to eventually leave as a Staff Officer.
Throughout those happy years I learned the values of Team work, taking ownership of an issue and being responsible to those around me. I developed a healthy attitude towards deadlines and this really helps in this line of work. I’ll never be the one to stall a project because – I’m just part of a wider production process.
The military also installed in me an ethos of getting things done, finding a way and not accepting unsurmountable challenges as portents of doom. I don’t just look out for myself and if I see a ball dropping then I reach out to catch it. Thats why I offer more than just a commodity service for my clients. If there’s something that’s holding up a project, maybe its something we can unlock together.
This was all transferable stuff that then took me into the Corporate World. I worked for several years at Board Level in the NHS, before the creative devil on my shoulder started nudging me.
It turns out that I was accidentally mis-employed for 35 years. I studied speech and drama when I was younger, I’m a grade 7 Classical Guitarist and come from a long line of musicians in my family. So it’s really no surprise that it wasn’t going to stop itching until I scratched it and I’m so glad that I did.
I live and work in Hampshire, UK, where my young family and I enjoy getting outdoors and being active. I have a professional studio where I serve clients around the World with remote access. But it’s so important to get out of there from time to time, smell the breeze and meet up with friends. Thats me, now let’s get this done.
My tone is authentic, approachable, warm and versatile. It lends itself to character work and my background allows me to deliver corporate work with ease. I’m genuinely passionate about factual content and I’m told this really comes across. You get narration that lifts text from the page, as if not read and I imagine I’m always talking to one person.
