Hi, James here, I’m an experienced British Voiceover Artist, offering a unique voice and transformational Service for your Corporate Videos, eLearning, Documentaries, Game Audio, Characters, Medical Narrations and Audioguide projects.
Why is it transformational ? here’s why:
Before getting into Professional Voiceover work, I served for 30 years in the British Military, working in weird and wonderful environments. People now think I enjoy cold weather – but its not true, I just know what clothes to wear. I was a Commando Medic, but now I enjoy freezing in my studio on cold days and boiling on the hot ones. I worked my way up the ranks and left as a Staff Officer and the biggest lesson I learned was its all about wearing the right clothes !
Throughout those happy years I learned the values of Team work, which are equally as valid in VoiceOver work, along with taking ownership of issues and being responsible to those around me. I developed a healthy attitude towards deadlines that I bring to the creative community with great communication, premium audio and a voice of experience. I’ll never be the one to stall a project because – I’m just part of a wider production process.
The military also installed in me an ethos of getting things done and finding a way, in spite of huge challenges. I don’t just look out for myself and focus on the VoiceOver project alone, so if I see a ball dropping I reach out to catch it. Thats why I offer more than just a commodity service for my clients. If there’s something that’s holding up a project, maybe its something I can help with. Thats why my service is transformational.
There’s always assumptions about what an ex-Military person is like, with assertiveness and an authoritative nature as the main ones. Yes I do have these traits, but I’m also warm, friendly and engaging. This was all transferable stuff that took me into the Corporate World after leaving the Service. I worked for several years at Director level in Healthcare, before the creative devil on my shoulder started nudging me.
It turns out that I was accidentally mis-employed for 35 years. I studied speech and drama when I was younger, I’m a grade 7 Classical Guitarist and come from a long line of musicians. So it’s really no surprise that it wasn’t going to stop itching until I scratched it and I’m so glad that I settled on Voice Over.
I live and work in Hampshire, UK, where my young family and I enjoy getting outdoors and being active. I have a professional studio where I serve clients around the World with remote access. But it’s so important to get out of there from time to time, smell the breeze and meet up with friends. Thats me, now let’s get this done.
My tone is authentic, approachable, warm and versatile. It lends itself to character work and my background allows me to deliver corporate work with ease. I’m genuinely passionate about factual content and I’m told this really comes across. You get narration that lifts text from the page, as if not read and I imagine I’m always talking to one person.
